Jason Momoa says that his character Lobo has a pretty high future in the DC Universe. On the heels of his live-action debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow later this month, Momoa hinted that bigger plans could be brewing behind the sceens, hinting at a possible solo movie.
While speaking to ComicBook, Momoa revealed that he has talked with DC Studios co-head James Gunn about Lobo’s next steps. “I have asked. And they do have some plans,” he said.
The actor said that Lobo’s journey in the DCU may unfold gradually like his Aquaman character was introduced in the former DC Extended Universe.
“If I’m allowed to release anything, I’d just say that, much like Aquaman, we came out with a little splash of him in Batman v Superman. Justice League was pretty big. Then the next thing. It’ll be a slow release, we’ll see where [Lobo] fits,” Momoa explained.

Momoa also believes a standalone Lobo movie would need to stay true to the character’s edgy persona by having an R rating.
“It’d be amazing to do our own solo. The audience really has to love him and want him to be there,” he said. “It has to be [R-rated]. It has to be. But you’ve also got to build the fanbase for that. You can’t just drop that in there and expect everyone to come in.”
Although Momoa’s character will only be in about 15% of the film’s runtime, his latest interaction with ComicBook indicates that this may be just the beginning for Lobo in the DCU.
Starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow also features Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, Ferdinand Kingsley, and Diarmaid Murtagh. The movie sours into theaters on June 26, 2026.
