Sean “Diddy” Combs was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at yesterday’s BET Awards. Kanye West made a special appearance and handed the music mogul his trophy.
“How do we crown our kings? How do we appreciate our kings? To think how far we could just make it off of inspiration,” West said in a speech that signaled Combs to the stage.
“This is my favorite artist. Do you see what I’m saying? Favorite artist. Everything. Not specifically production, the drip. Back then, there were so many rules to hip hop. He broke all of them. Broke down all the doors. He broke down many doors about classism, taste, culture, swag. Puff, if I never told you…I love you.”
Once Diddy spoke, he thanked his loved ones and the music figures he was able to work with so far. He concluded his speech by vowing to donate $1 million to Howard University and Jackson State University.
In the past, Whitney Houston, Prince, Queen Latifah, Anita Baker, and Mary J. Blige, to name a few, were gifted with BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
