The trailer for the upcoming The Naked Gun reboot has officially dropped and introduces Taken star Liam Neeson as the goofy lead. Produced by Seth MacFarlane and directed and written by Akiva Schaffer of The Lonely Island, the 2025 reboot stars Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the character who was played by the late Leslie Nielsen in the 1988 movie.
In the trailer, a young girl enters a bank amid a robbery, ignoring the police officers’ warnings in the process. As it turns out, Nielsen is disguised as the girl and he proceeds to tussle with the robbers. In the next scene, Neeson and his colleagues pay homage to characters from the previous films. One tribute goes to Detective Nordberg, who was originally played by O.J. Simpson. Before the teaser ends, the police officer shakes his head at the camera in response to his on-screen father (Simpson), providing a different reaction to others’ emotional states.

The reboot features a star-studded cast, including Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston. The film has been in development for over ten years.

The original Naked Gun series was created by David Zucker, Jim Zucker, and Jim Abrahams. The 1988 film The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! quickly became a comedy classic, thanks to Leslie Nielsen‘s performance and the film’s hilarious take on police work. It was followed by two more sequels: The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear in 1991 and Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult in 1994, both starring Nielsen.
