The Justice League film in question originally released four years ago in 2017, the circumstances surrounding the film’s production were less than ideal however. Director Zack Snyder was forced to walk away from the film during post-production due to personal issues, leaving producer Joss Whedon to complete the movie. The film was met with lukewarm reviews at best, however there is another version of the film that has fans more than eager to give the story another shot. This version has been deemed the “Snyder Cut” created by Zack Snyder that recaptures the film how Snyder originally envisioned before he was forced to walk away, and a new trailer is helping shed light on just how different Snyder’s film will be.
Originally, Snyder had a five movie plan that would build the DC Universe much like Marvel has in recent years. While those plans have likely been abandoned, Warner Brothers plans to release Snyder’s four hour, R-rated version of the film to appease eager fans next month via HBO Max. At IGN Fan Fest this past week, Snyder unveiled a new trailer titled “The Mother Box Origins” that presents the heroes in a rather abstract fashion. The trailer is CGI-generated and does not feature any specific details that may allude to Snyder’s vision of the film, however fans have been quick to point out a number of presumed easter eggs throughout the trailer that they believe are definitely room for interpretation.
Fans have been clamoring for Snyder’s version of Justice League for years, going as far as to make #ReleaseTheSnyderCut a viral hashtag on social media. Warner Brothers seemingly does not have much to lose releasing said version as the original 2017 film only garnered a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie studio also doesn’t have to spend much money marketing the film given the hype surrounding it and can release it alongside all of their other new releases as movie theaters remain closed. They have nothing to lose by releasing the film and everything to gain as they attempt to garner fan’s interest and build the DC Universe. Eager fans can look forward to the release of the “Snyder Cut” on March 18th, 2021.
