A month after the death of rising superstar Pop Smoke, the much anticipated video for the rapper’s “Shake the Room” with Quavo has been released.
As soon as the video begins, one can sense the nostalgia and timelessness this visual provides. Shot by designer, OFF-WHITE founder and Louis Vuitton artistic director Virgil Abloh, the viewer follows the rappers as they sip wine, enjoy a 5-star meal, hang out in the kitchen of the restaurant and then and peel through the streets of the City of Light in a flashy Ferrari Pista. The point of view from which the video was filmed makes it feel as though we were right there turning up with them. Not only does Paris provide a stunning setting for their wild night out, but Pop Smoke and Quavo are all smiles as they go verse for verse on the track while hyping each other up.
“[Pop Smoke’s] impact will live on thru the art he left us,” Abloh wrote on Instagram. “In this case it was the night after the [Louis Vuitton] show while we had the cameras rolling inside & outside a typical French restaurant in my neighborhood.”
It is undeniable that Smoke’s energy, presence, and infectious smile will live forever. “Shake the Room” features on Pop Smoke’s 2020 mixtape Meet the Woo 2, released two weeks prior to his death at the age of 20 on February 19.
