During San Diego Comic-Con 2023, Adult Swim dropped an official trailer for Rick and Morty: The Anime. The preview, in particular, highlights the introduction to the adult sci-fi comedy series and draws a lot of similarities from the original series’ opening scene.
Like the original show, the introduction finds Rick and Morty embarking on different adventures while the credits play. The teaser also previews the upcoming series’s unique animation style and what Rick, Morty, Summer, and more will look like. Rick and Morty: The Anime will hold ten episodes.
At the end of the trailer, the anime’s director Takashi Sano placed a PSA for fans. He also admitted to being a Rick and Morty fan and promised to do the show justice while adding a “unique Japanese twist.”
“Hello. I’m Sano, the director of Rick and Morty: The Anime,” Sano said. “And as the director, I assure you that I’m also a huge fan of the original Rick and Morty. I believe there are many Rick and Morty fans all over the world. And I’m truly honored to be chosen to create a new Rick and Morty story out of all of them. But with that honor comes much pressure because the original is so well made. What I’ve tried to accomplish in these ten episodes is to take all my favorite parts of watching Rick and Morty, compress them down to extract their essence, and then add a unique Japanese twist.”
Sako is also the creator behind two other Rick and Morty anime shorts, Rick and Morty vs. Genocider and Summer Meet God (Rick Meets Evil).
