What’s the word?
Robert Downey Jr. will be making a return to the MCU franchise!
A new update for the franchise will be expanding on the storyline from the latest Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday. After a long wait, a new movie is set to hit theaters, following decisions made by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although there haven’t been many updates about the film, let’s go over a few quick details that have been shared. This year is expected to feature one of the biggest Avengers movie debuts of all time.
Robert’s big return ✨
I can already hear all the MCU fans wondering why many of the cast members won’t be on screen. However, there’s a special surprise: Robert Downey Jr., one of the fans’ favorites, is officially returning to the franchise! He will be reprising his role as Doctor Doom, serving as the main villain.
As far as we know, Collider has reported that Avengers: Doomsday will begin production and filming in spring 2025. One of the directors, Joe Russo, mentioned during an interview at New York Comic Con that a timeline is in place and they are moving forward, although he did not specify when exactly.
What’s to be expected!
The film will mark the first appearance of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Following the firing of Jonathan Majors, who played Kang the Conqueror, the project underwent significant changes, including a new title—previously Avengers: The Kang Dynasty—and the decision to feature Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom to serve as the film’s main attraction.
The Multiverse Saga has faced more criticism than the Infinity Saga, primarily because the MCU has struggled to maintain a clear direction since Avengers: Endgame. Many new characters were introduced but have been absent for years, while beloved fan favorites hardly interacted with one another. Additionally, Marvel has dealt with numerous delays for movies and TV shows due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Hollywood strikes in 2023.
