The Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse sequel, set to be released in theaters on October, 7, 2022 reconfirmed their directing team. Originally it was reported that Joaquin Dos Santos would be directing the upcoming film. Joining Dos Santos, which can be seen on the official Spider-Verse movie Instagram page is Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson. This was announced yesterday with a post of the three men captioned, “The multiverse is expanding. Meet your #SpiderVerse directing team: Joaquin Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson.”
The team issued a joint statement per Variety stating,
“The crew behind the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse set such a ridiculously high bar, and we’re humbled to take on the challenge of charting the next chapter in the story of Miles Morales.”
The bar has definitely been set high based on the first Spider-Verse movie. We can be sure that expectations will be met, Dos Santos and Thompson are, “Sony Picture veterans.” Dos Santos worked on the first Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse movie and Thompson was the production designer for Sony Picture’s, Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs along with its sequel. Powers is also a heavy hitter seeing as how he is the Co-director for Oscar nominated movie, Soul. Together I’m sure they’re bound to pack a big punch when it comes to directing and delivering this sequel.
