Star Wars has debuted the original music video, many fans weren’t happy.
Disney features the talented actress Amandla Stenberg. In celebration of Juneteenth, she shared a track on her Instagram page with the message “Happy Juneteenth . And to those who are flooding me with intolerable racism—since it took me 72 hours on my laptop make this song and video, u got 72 hours to respond. and I expect choreo“!
Before diving into the song’s lyrics, here’s a brief update for those not caught up with the Acolyte: The new Disney+ show is created by Leslye Headland, making her the first openly queer individual to lead a live-action Star Wars project.
The latest Disney+ show, created by Headland, marks the first time an queer individual is leading a live-action Star Wars project. The lead role is played by Stenberg, portraying identical twins Osha and Mae Aniseya in a story set 100 years prior to The Phantom Menace.
The project received favorable reviews from critics initially, achieving an 85% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes upon debut. However, following its release on June 4th, there have been claims of manipulation of reviews, resulting in a decreased audience score to just 14%—falling below the beloved Star Wars Holiday Special in popularity.
