The Black Phone 2 has enlisted a horror veteran to join its cast. According to Comic Book, Demián Bichir has an official role in the movie. Bichir is known for his impressive work in horror flicks like 2020’s The Grudge, 2018’s The Nun, and 2017’s Alien: Covenant.
Although details about The Black Phone 2 are scarce, actors like Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora are set to reprise their respective roles. Steven Dickenson will return to the Black Phone franchise as a director.
Author Joe Hill touched on The Black Phone‘s prequel during his interview with Comic Book in 2022.
“There have been talks about how to do a sequel that wouldn’t suck. How to do a sequel that doesn’t cheapen the film that came before, that’s still scary, that’s still intense, that feels organic. And those conversations have been pretty good. But if I were to provide any details, Scott and Cargill would lock me in the basement in the film, and that’s it,” he stated.
“And the phone doesn’t work. As you know, the phone doesn’t work. I can’t call anyone to get out. So, I would decline to offer any real granular details about the possible sequel.”
An adaptation of the 2007 novel of the same name by Joe Hill, The Black Phone tells the story of a masked killer who kidnaps a 13-year-old named Finley. After Finley gets trapped in the murderer’s basement, a phone begins to ring, and Finley discovers that he’s receiving calls from the killer’s former victims, who try to make sure he doesn’t suffer the same tragic fate.
