The impeccable Viola Davis has been quite busy making multiple memorable on screen appearances as she is currently giving a one of a kind performance in theaters as The Woman King directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. Excitingly, Ms. Davis will continue to show her expertise as a defender against foreign enemies as she will be starring and producing in a new thriller, titled, G20. In the new production of G20 written by Noah and Logan Miller (White Boy Rick), revised by Caitlin Parrish and Erica Weiss (The Red Lion), we will encounter Viola Davis as the Commander-in-Chief of the United States of America, President Taylor Sutton. In this fun, action packed thriller Davis is set to rely on her diplomacy and military skills to defend the G20 Summit which becomes overtaken by terrorist. We get to see Davis, yet again, fighting to protect her, fellow leaders, family, and the world, as she reprises her role as a fierce leader facing deadly political obstacles.
This new film is an Amazon Original Movie and will be premiering on Amazon Prime in almost 250 countries and territories worldwide. Director Patricia Riggens ( The 33 and Miracles From Heaven), will be working with producers Davis and her husband/partner Julius Tennon of JuVee Productions (both producers of The Woman King), as well as Mad Chance productions’ Andrew Lazar.
“Viola is truly a one-of-a-kind talent both in front of and behind the camera, and we can’t wait to watch her bring the dynamic character that is President Sutton to life,” said Julie Rapaport, who serves as head of movies at Amazon Studios. “We look forward to working with the incredible film making team and our partners at MRC Film to deliver this exciting movie to our Prime Video audience around the world.”
“Viola bringing her unmatched strength, depth and humor to this kind of fun, popcorn movie is something we cannot wait to see,” added MRC Film Co-Presidents Brye Adler and Jonathan Golfman. “In Patricia, we have the perfect director to balance a grounded character story with a satisfying genre film. We are thrilled to be partnering with Prime Video to help bring this movie to a global audience.”
Yet another unparalleled performance is graciously anticipated as Viola Davis continues to center conversations this award season. Davis is one of today’s most acclaimed actors repeatedly producing and starring in award winning work. Her most recent character as the role of The Woman King has many fans and critics labeling Davis’s performance as “Oscar-winning”. As we can also look forward to seeing her in projects like the villain of upcoming Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Ben Affleck’s as-yet-untitled motion picture about the founding of Nike, her variety of talent proves to remain untouched. Ms. Viola Davis as an award winning star and producer is most certainly a journey moving upward.
