Wesley Snipes broke two Guinness Records after surprising fans by returning as Blade in Deadpool and Wolverine. His unexpected return thrilled fans and generated excitement for what was to come. According to the Guinness World Records‘ official website, the actor secured the achievements by having the longest career as a live-action Marvel character and the longest gap between character appearances in Marvel films.
Snipes returned in Deadpool & Wolverine to portray the character he created, a half-vampire known as the iconic Day Walker, 25 years and nearly 340 days after his initial debut as Blade in 1998. Snipes last portrayed his character almost 19 years ago in the 2000 film Blade: Trinity. This return has surpassed Alfred Molina’s 17 years as Doc Ock in 2004’s Spider-Man 2 and 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
As Snipes reprised his role in Deadpool & Wolverine, he joined fellow cast members Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. He continued to develop his character alongside others, including Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Dafne Keen as X-23, and Channing Tatum as Gambit, as he battled the villainous Cassandra Nova, portrayed by Emma Corrin, and fellow minions.
Deadpool & Wolverine earned $205 million during its opening weekend after being released on July 26. In turn, the movie marked a significant entry into the Marvel franchise, achieving impressive worldwide numbers and becoming the highest-rated movie to date. The movie secured a second spot behind Inside Out 2, which also performed well, earning $115 million since its release this year.
