Ryan Coogler And Michael B. Jordan Tease Supernatural Thriller During AFC Championship

“You keep dancing with the devil, one day he’s gonna follow you home.”

Viewers of Sunday’s Chiefs-Bills AFC Championship game got more than just football action when a haunting sneak peek of Sinners, the upcoming supernatural thriller from director Ryan Coogler (Black Panther) and star Michael B. Jordan (Creed), aired to eerie effect. The minute-long teaser offered audiences a chilling first taste of what’s to come ahead of the full trailer debuting Tuesday, January 28th. Accompanied by the ominous tagline, “Sinners are coming,” the teaser has set the internet ablaze with speculation.

The sneak peek opens with a mysterious trio of bluegrass musicians — Jack O’Connell (28 Years Later), Lola Kirke (Gone Girl), and Peter Dreimanis of indie rock band July Talk — performing the haunting folk song “Pick Poor Robin Clean”. Their vocals cut through the silence as they plead for entry into a speakeasy owned by twin brothers Elijah and Elias, both played by Jordan in what promises to be a masterpiece dual role.

As the melody grows more sinister, the visuals shift to 20 seconds of dark, unsettling imagery. This is where viewers see a dancing Mary (Hailee Steinfeld), a blood-soaked Michael B. Jordan, and a cackling woman foretelling doom: “We’re gonna kill every last one of you”.

While plot details remain tightly guarded, the film’s synopsis hints at a tale of terror rooted in family and homecoming. Many fans are speculating that Sinners is a vampire tale, and the teaser only fans those flames with its gothic imagery and supernatural tension.

“Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.”

A Star-Studded Cast & Crew

Coogler has assembled a powerhouse cast for his sixth directorial effort, with Jordan leading alongside Hailee Steinfeld (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), Jack O’Connell (Ferrari), Wunmi Mosaku (Deadpool & Wolverine), Jayme Lawson (The Woman King), Omar Benson Miller (True Lies), and Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods).

Behind the camera, Coogler reunites with many of his Oscar-winning collaborators from the Black Panther franchise, including cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, production designer Hannah Beachler, editor Michael P. Shawver, composer Ludwig Göransson, and costume designer Ruth E. Carter. Coogler produces alongside Sev Ohanian (Creed III) and Zinzi Coogler (Marvel’s Ironheart), with Göransson also serving as an executive producer.

A Cinematic Experience Like No Other

Shot in IMAX, Sinners promises a visual and auditory spectacle. Coogler’s ability to blend genre thrills with emotional depth, paired with Jordan’s commanding screen presence, has already set high expectations for the April 18 release.

Whether it’s vampires, devils, or something even more sinister, Sinners is shaping up to be one of 2025’s most anticipated films. With a chilling tagline, a star-studded team, and a teaser that refuses to let go of the grip it has on its veiwers, the countdown to April 18th has officially begun. Get ready — Sinners are coming.
