Alan Ritchson And Kevin James Bring Mayhem And Laughter In Prime Video’s ‘Playdate’

Prime Video is leveling up its action-comedy game this fall with Playdate, a surprising yet perfectly chaotic pairing of Alan Ritchson (Reacher) and Kevin James (The King of Queens). The streamer just unveiled a hilarious new poster teasing what could be one of the most unexpected buddy comedies of 2025.

Set to premiere on November 12th, 2025, Playdate finds two ordinary dads caught in the most extraordinary day imaginable. The poster, shared via Prime Movies’ official X (formerly Twitter) account, features Ritchson and James surrounded by bright plastic ball-pit toys. Only this time, they’re also surrounded by red laser sights. The quirky tagline? “PLAYTIME JUST GOT REAL“.

The recently released trailer turns up both the heat and the humor. What starts as a harmless hangout between two stay-at-home fathers quickly spirals into a bullet-fueled frenzy. All because, a group of armed mercenaries crashes their suburban bonding session. As Brian played by Kevin James and Jeff played by Alan Ritchson, scramble to protect their kids, what unfolds is half high-octane action, with the other half made up of a laugh-out-loud misadventure. With Ritchson playing the straight man to James’ lovable everydad.

An afternoon playdate between two stay-at-home dads turns into high-stakes chaos...” reads the film’s official description. With that being said, the trailer delivers exactly that. Explosions, car chases, parenting mishaps, and razor-sharp one-liners all collide in a story that leans into both stars’ comedic timing and action chops.

Additionally, the rest of the cast includes Benjamin Pajak and Banks Pierce as the duo’s sons, with Alan Tudyk, Sarah Chalke, Stephen Root, and Isla Fisher rounding out an already strong comedic lineup. Directed by Luke Greenfield (Let’s Be Cops, The Girl Next Door) and written by Neil Goldman (Community, Scrubs, Shrinking), Playdate looks to strike that perfect balance between ridiculous and riveting. Making it a must-watch for anyone craving laughs with their explosions.

With Ritchson fresh off his breakout action stardom and James returning to his comedic roots, Playdate might just be Prime Video’s next big streaming hit.
