Cameron Diaz has recently returned to acting after a decade-long retirement.
In her impressive performance in Netflix’s Back in Action, Diaz shared with Access Hollywood that she would be open to reprising her role in a sequel to the beloved 1994 comedy The Mask—but only if Jim Carrey is part of the project.
“If Jim is involved, I mean, I’ve been riding his coattails from day one,” she quipped, expressing her enthusiasm for revisiting the role of Tina Carlyle, the glamorous nightclub singer she originally brought to life.
The Mask featured Jim Carrey in the role of Stanley Ipkis, a timid bank teller whose mundane existence is dramatically altered when he stumbles upon a mystical mask that imbues him with the essence of an enchanting trickster.
Carrey has previously shared with Comicbook.com his openness to reprising the iconic role in a sequel—but only if the project is supported by a compelling and well-crafted script.
“Oh gosh, you know, it’s all about finding the right concept,” said Carrey, who recently reprised his role as Doctor Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. “If someone were to present a compelling idea, then I’d be interested… It’s really not about the money,” he clarified.
“I joke about financial motivation… But the truth is, you can never be certain about these matters. I once mentioned wanting to retire, but I think I was more referring to taking a break. Because once inspiration strikes or if I encounter a group of people I truly enjoy collaborating with, everything can change quite unexpectedly.”
During an interview with Access Hollywood, Cameron Diaz shared her excitement about the possibility of reprising her role in another Charlie’s Angels sequel alongside her iconic co-stars Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. With a playful tone, she suggested her Back in Action co-star Jamie Foxx would make a great Bosley.
