In recent news reported by Variety, Besson is set to collaborate with Snoop Dogg on an upcoming film titled The Last Man. This movie is described as being inspired by Planet of the Apes and may have connections to Dogg’s 2009 track “Last Man Standing.”
Snoop’s Inspiration
Snoop Dogg had previously mentioned that he was developing a project inspired by Planet of the Apes, teasing to Variety last month that it could feature “dogs instead of apes.” At that time, it was not revealed that Luc Besson would be involved. Besson has penned the screenplay for the film titled The Last Man and will serve as a producer alongside Snoop Dogg, Sara Ramaker, and Virginie Besson-Silla. Filming is anticipated to commence in 2025.
Besson and Snoop collab!
Luc Besson and Snoop Dogg have a history of collaboration, having previously teamed up on the animated film Arthur and the Minimoys (titled Arthur and the Invisibles in the U.S.), which Besson directed and featured Snoop as the voice of a character named Max.
Reflecting on their long-standing admiration for one another, Besson stated, “I’ve been a huge fan of Snoop Dogg’s music since his hit “Who Am I“. We first crossed paths two decades ago and have always hoped to collaborate again. We just needed to find the perfect project that would inspire us both—and this is it, with Snoop taking on the lead role. I’m truly excited to get started!”
Snoop Dogg expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Since the moment I watched The Professional, I’ve dreamed of having [Luc] direct a full movie for me. Now, we finally have the chance for him to not only write but also direct me in a film that bears his unique touch“.
