Over the past couple of decades, a few independent film studios have appeared in Hollywood and made substantial noise. Among those is the powerhouse A24 Films, the creative force behind projects such as 2015’s Ex Machina and 2019’s Uncut Gems. A24 never seems to take a vacation as they are constantly churning out projects for audience’s entertainment, and they just announced the star of their latest. Zac Efron is set to star in A24’s upcoming film The Iron Claw set to tell the story of the famous Von Erich family and the dynasty they built in professional wrestling.
The Von Erich family’s presence in professional wrestling dates back well over half a century, and their presence is still evident today with Marshall and Ross Von Erich still active in wrestling today. It began with Fritz Von Erich back in the 1950s and their story includes his five sons and now his grandsons as well, meaning Efron is set to join an ensemble of sorts of which his role is not clear yet nor any of his supporting cast. He should have nothing to fret though, having seen recent success with projects he’s worked on such as this year’s Firestarter and Gold. We do know however that Efron will be joined by Director Sean Durkin, making his first film since directing 2020’s The Nest, who will also write the project’s screenplay. A24 has seen success already this year with projects such as X and Everything Everywhere All at Once making this an especially busy year for the production house, but it should be a good one for fans. Further details are expected to emerge about The Iron Claw in the coming weeks.
June isn’t over yet, and A24 is eagerly announcing plans for another film that includes several others in the pipeline which only further highlights their dedication to their craft. It should be interesting to see who joins Efron to tell the story of the Von Erich family, and how A24 and the crew behind the film bring the story alive. Eager fans can remain on the lookout for further updates on The Iron Claw.
